The 4th of July: 7 Ways To Be Independent
The 4th of July is here and while I do find holidays highly overrated I thought it would be a good idea to talk about independence since that is the general theme of independence day. Here are 7 ways that you can be more independent and take control of your own life.
1. Put Yourself First.
This is self-explanatory. If you can’t put yourself first then what else matters? You have to take control of your own life and make the most of it if you want to be independent. Otherwise you’re just relying on others to make your life better for you. You don’t want to do that.
Don’t rely on religion, government, family, or friends to fix your problems. It’s up to you to take the driver’s seat of life and get things done.
2. Save Your Money and Plan. Don’t Rely On A Job To Take Care of You.
A job puts you just-over-broke. Don’t expect a job to be around forever. The old days of working at the factory your father and grandfather worked at for 50 or more years are long gone. You need a backup plan when things go wrong, and they often too. Far too many people are blindsided because they have no money and they life paycheck to paycheck. Our country is the biggest debtor nation in the world.
This is simply unacceptable. You need to invest in your future and start paying yourself first and using your money to build other income streams. It’s not up to your boss to make you rich. It’s up to you.
3. Cook Your Own Food
I can’t stress the importance of cooking enough. Not only is it cheap, but it’s healthy for you and you know what goes in it. Don’t rely on restaurants to feed your family. Even if you try to eat “healthy” you’ll find that the food often has been cross contaminated or has been made with animals that have hormones and the like injected to them. What saves you some time up front will cost you later in magnitudes.
Simply wake up earlier or cook your food on the weekends for the next upcoming week and store it. You’ll be glad you did. Get a cook book if you want to know where to start.
4. Exercise and Take Care of Yourself
You only get one body so it’s time to take care of it. Don’t expect others to take care of you when you feel sick or get older because they may not be there. If you take care of yourself now, you’ll be more hardy and be prepared in case you get sick. You’ll also be able to get more done and when you look better you’ll increase opportunities for yourself in many aspects of life. This can’t be ignored. Grab some dumbbells, a jump rope, and a stability ball. Get a exercise mat as well for extra comfort.
5. Think For Yourself and Stop Worrying About What Others Think.
There is some good advice that is worth listening to. However basing your life on what others think of you in a personal manner is a recipe for failure. Many people want others to follow them so they won’t feel uncomfortable or inadequate , or they don’t want others to succeed so they drag them in the soup along with them.
Live on your own terms and make the most of your life. You only get one so why live on someone else’s terms?
6. Don’t Follow the Life Script.
You don’t need to go to college, you don’t need a job to make a greater life, you don’t need to be married, and you don’t need kids. Plan your own life out and do what’s best for you. Simply copying what other individuals say you should do because they did it will lead to a life of resentment and misery. Misery loves company. Don’t spend your life wishing you could have been a contender. Get out there and make things happen.
7. Master Being Happy Alone.
Learn to be happy alone. This idea that you need others to make you happy is why others are so miserable in the first place. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the company of others, but many are not content in themselves. There’s a difference between being alone and being lonely. Learn to enjoy your time to yourself before you spend it with others. It’s good for you and the other person. believe me. Wouldn’t it be great to know that you can always be happy at any time whenever you feel like it? It’s like a new world once you do it.
Being independent is about a state of mind. Master that state of mind and come one step closer to mastering your life.
